The Woolgoolga Blues first became a club in 1982, along with five other teams, to make up the North Coast Australian Football League competition. The clubs home ground was Centennial Oval in the heart of Woolgoolga. In that year, The Woolgoolga Blues won the first of their many premierships when they beat Port Macquarie in the inaugural season. The Blues went through the 1983 season unbeaten to be premiers again.
We are the Northern Beaches Football Club
and this is your story ...
The story of our Seniors
From 1982 to 1994, Woolgoolga was the team to beat. They were early trendsetters that managed to play in the first thirteen grand finals for the league and won seven of them. Two of these finals (1987 & 1988) were played at Centennial Oval. The Under 17s were also premiers in 1991. In 1996 & 1998, The Woolgoolga Blues won their eighth and ninth premiership and in 1999, the Reserves competition was reintroduced and was won by the Blues.
In 2006 the Seniors withdrew from the competition, re-joining the comp in 2019 as the Northern Beaches Blues with a Women's team and a Reserves grade team. The Reserves went on to win the premiership that year. In 2022, the Blue's won their first Women's premiership against the Breakers and many of our Junior teams finished in top 4 positions.
A new and exciting chapter has begun with the Northern Beaches Blues Club moving to a new venue - the Wiigulga Sporting Complex on Solitary Islands Way. The ground opened on 3 December 2022. In 2023, the Blues will field Senior Men & Senior Women teams for the Senior competition and there will be Auskick, U10 mixed, U12 mixed, U14 mixed, U16 boys, U14 girls and U17 girls in the Junior competition. The Northern Beaches Blues Football Club have around 200 players ranging in age from 6 to 60 and compete against teams from Byron Bay to Port Macquarie in the North Coast AFL competition.
The story of our Juniors
During the time the Senior club was in recess, the Junior Club renamed as the Northern Beaches Blues Junior Football Club in 2006 and continued on, initially with teams in Auskick and 3 underage groups.
?The Junior club was able to build and grow in player numbers during this time, making a number of finals and grand finals in the different age groups. Consolidating the hard work of the committee and volunteers, the Junior Club focussed on providing an environment of support, inclusiveness and fun in playing AFL.
?There is a lot happening this year. It's a great time to get involved.
